Where’s the good music this year? I’ve only acquired 4 new albums this year (Colin Meloy, Jack Johnson, The Magnetic Fields and Vampire Weekend) and will probably buy the new Sigur Rós when it’s released next week. Death Cab got mixed reviews last month, so I haven’t picked that one up yet. Recommendations, anyone?

I picked up Death Cab (somewhere, anyway) and I am eh about it. I was eh about Plans, too, so maybe I need to go back and take another listen. I recently put Bloc Party’s Weekend in the City in the car and enjoyed it a LOT more than when it first came out … so maybe it just takes a year of denial before things start to sound good? The new Coldplay is decent, though I think you may be morally opposed to them. I’m still listening to a lot of Ben Folds, actually, and breaking it up with random techno. I think I need to drink more.

I’ve listened to the new Coldplay twice through and found it infinitely less disappointing than X&Y. Let me know next time you go drinking.

Then it was a triomphe! I’m sorry I’ve been such a bad friend lately, but I think I’m finally getting settled into having a working schedule. We should hang out sometime for some shenanigans (apartment fires, or other).

There have been some good albums so far in 2008. I’ve really enjoyed The Ruby Suns’ album Sea Lion. The album reminds me a lot of Panda Bear’s Person Pitch,but with a little more of a world sound. New albums by Mates of State and Beach House are definitely worth a listen.
